City’s Energy Festival and Smart Living programmes join forces for a more sustainable future

The City’s Environmental Management Department’s Smart Living Programme continues to reach communities across the metro. Over the next few months, the Smart Living Programme will be part of the Cape Town Future Energy festival, hosted by the Sustainable Energy Markets Department in partnership with the Risk and Resilience Department to help residents live energy smart and safer lives. Five libraries are playing host to the Smart Living and Cape Town Future Energy Festival events currently, with a successful gathering just completed at the Bishop Lavis, Scottsdene and Delft Libraries.

The City’s #SmartLiving #BeattheHeat and #CTEnergyFestival initiatives are being rolled out at a limited number of libraries to help drive awareness about how to reduce energy use to save money; and how to reduce risks to vulnerable residents, such as the elderly, during extreme heat events.

Five City libraries are taking part in areas identified as high heat zones across the metro. These include, Bishop Lavis, Delft, Scottsdene, Kuyasa and Brooklyn.

‘The combined efforts across City departments demonstrate how the City prioritises initiatives and interventions that help our most vulnerable residents live smarter and more energy efficient lives, while also equipping them with the knowledge to reduce health risks associated with extreme heat and heat waves. We look forward to taking our programme to more communities,’ said the Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Alderman Xanthea Limberg.
